Mulalley was appointed by the London Borough of Lambeth to construct a 3-storey concrete framed school for children with special educational needs (SEN) on a Brownfield site in Brixton.
A natural ventilation system was used in the school and photovoltaic solar panels were fitted to provide hot water. A rainwater harvesting system delivering water to the toilets was also installed. This all helped the scheme to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.
Such was the quality of the project, the development won ‘Best Educational Building’ at the London Regional LABC Building Excellence Awards for ‘building excellence in the delivery of outstanding construction and workmanship’. Livity School also qualified as a finalist for the LABC Grand Finals.
