Successful day for Mulalley staff at recent AMIP meeting

Last month, three Mulalley staff attended the latest AMIP* members meeting, for a day of discussion and learning around succession planning, staff retention and attracting young people into the housing sector. The focus of the meeting was on recruitment, retention, succession planning as well as a key focus on best practice apprenticeship delivery. For the first time, AMIP members were invited to bring an apprentice or junior staff member so that they could benefit from the content of the meeting. Ryan Page (our Construction Management Trainee) and Amber Perrier (our Social Value Officer) both accompanied Peter Sharman (who represents Mulalley at AMIP) to the event which was held at Charlton Athletic Football Club.

Every apprentice and junior member of staff in attendance at the meeting received a £50 voucher, courtesy of Travis Perkins Managed Services. Rita Lad, Head of Subcontractors, and Sarah Narracott, Business Development Executive at TPMS gave out the vouchers which can be used to purchase items from Travis Perkins, to support them to enhance their career within the social housing sector.

Amber Perrier (pictured with her voucher) said: “I really enjoyed my day at AMIP! I learnt through AMIP’s presentation on successful case studies by United Welsh, CYT and understanding how we can best connect with young people in inspiring them into construction and breaking barriers. I loved networking with other contractors/ clients to discuss ways of supporting future apprentices and how to deliver through Social Value which I found very useful.”

Ryan Page said: “My day at AMIP was very insightful. I found it promising that the general consensus throughout all attendees was the primary focus to make the construction industry a more appealing and accessible sector for the youth. It was great to see how other firms use different practices to support their apprentices within their trainee schemes. I had a great time networking with other contactors and sharing experiences with fellow trainees about how we got into the sector, what we find helpful from our colleges/universities, and what our set goals for the future years ahead were. Thank you to AMIP and Peter for a great day.”

To round the event off there was a Christmas AMIP quiz which tested general knowledge on a raft of topics, including films and general knowledge. Our Mulalley representatives were on the winning team, and our Peter Sharman won the tie-break question to win an afternoon of indoor skydiving fun.

AMIP* - this stands for Asset Management Improvement Partnership, which is a unique best practice and benchmarking club, made up of clients, contractors and suppliers, which brings together people from across the housing sector to share their expertise.
