Fifty-seven year 4 pupils from All Saints’ C of E Primary School in Croydon were invited to attend our College Green Site to help decorate Mulalley’s site hoardings and, in the process, won the Considerate Constructor’s Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition for 2019.
The day started with a briefing as to how the mural was going to be set-out, and how the painting works were going to be managed to ensure everyone had a chance to contribute and to shine. The children came up with design ideas on the theme of ‘Our Fragile Land and Sea Environment’.
Mulalley mascot Safe Sammy was on hand to help and, with so many artists, the pupils were split into groups who all took turns to build up a picture of the beautiful sea and land environment, with some plastic bottles and pollution thrown in for reality.
Snacks and drinks were provided for all throughout the day and the weather was glorious which lifted everyone and brought out the best in them, resulting in the masterpiece being brought to life around 3pm. The day ended with a round of high-fives and cheers.
The talented group, in addition to seeing their masterpiece proudly positioned on site, received winners medals and certificates from the Ivor Goodsite Competition.
Miss Sabina Kashmiri, Admin Assistant at All Saints’ C of E Primary School said: “What fabulous work! Many thanks for the opportunity. We have had so much positive feedback from the staff as well as the children.”
Naomi M, a Year 4 pupil said: “I really enjoyed the experience of being able to show my creative work on a huge wall!”
Stefan, also from Year 4 said: “I like how I was able to draw a shark on paper and then draw it on the wall before painting it and it looked awesome.”
Mulalley Operations Director, Bruce Benson said: “We are so delighted for the children of All Saints Primary School that their design won! The decorated hoarding has really brightened up our site. Mulalley is always keen to engage with the communities around our sites and working with these talented young artists was a great example of this.”
Mulalley is working with Croydon Council on their General Building Works contract and their External Decorations Framework.
