Planning for the future

Mulalley recently hosted Year 11 pupils at their Leys site in Dagenham as part of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Barking and Dagenham Construction Advisory Group ‘Build Your Future’ project.

The students from Elutec College, Barking Abbey and Eastbury Schools were shown around the fully working site and were briefed on the competition: planning and designing a development of 10 homes to include green spaces, roads and a communal area.   Students were given the opportunity to ask questions and gain information from a Mulalley Project Manager, an Architect as well as an Advisor at the CITB.

The students then went onto mock interviews and a skills workshop as part of the project, with final presentations taking place in front of a panel of judges at the Town Hall in October.

Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Cabinet Member for Educational Attainment and School improvement said: “Over the next 20 years Barking and Dagenham will see 50,000 new homes built, along with a range of associated infrastructure.

“This is a great business programme for youngsters in our area to showcase their talents at an early age and show how they can deliver a project within the borough.”

John Moore, Operations Director at Mulalley said: “I hope that these young employees of the future found their time at the Leys useful. Mulalley is always committed to encouraging and developing the construction workers of the future and we wish the students all the best in their future career choices.”

Having completing phase one of the Leys Regeneration Project earlier this year (providing 30 houses and 59 apartments), works are now well underway on the second phase which will provide an additional 69 homes for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
